Modular storage that scales with your home.
The Enphase IQ Battery 5P is an AC-coupled lithium iron phosphate (LFP) storage system built around Enphase’s microinverter architecture. It’s ideal if you want a modular path — start with one unit, add capacity as your household’s energy needs grow.
5.0 kWh per unit
Each IQ Battery 5P stores 5.0 kWh of usable energy with a continuous power rating of 3.84 kW and a 7.68 kW peak output. Stack multiple units to match your backup goals.
LFP chemistry, UL 9540A tested
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) is one of the safest battery chemistries for residential use. The IQ Battery 5P meets UL 9540A large-scale fire testing requirements and uses passive cooling — no fans or moving parts.
15-year limited warranty
The IQ Battery 5P is backed by a 15-year limited warranty covering up to 6,000 charge cycles. Round-trip efficiency: 96% DC and 90% AC.
Six embedded microinverters, built into the battery.
What makes the Enphase IQ Battery 5P different from most residential batteries is that it’s AC-coupled with six embedded IQ8D-BAT microinverters already built into each unit. That means it connects to your home’s AC electrical system directly, rather than needing a separate inverter stage — simpler wiring, fewer failure points, and native compatibility with Enphase solar systems.
Three operating modes — backup, self-consumption, and time-of-use (TOU) — let you optimize how the battery is used. In California under NEM 3.0, TOU mode helps you consume your own stored solar during expensive evening peak-rate hours instead of exporting it to the grid at a reduced rate.

Best suited when you want…
Modular expansion
Start with one unit today, add more later as your energy needs grow — EV charging, heat pump, home addition. You don’t have to size for worst-case on day one.
Enphase system compatibility
If your solar system already uses Enphase IQ microinverters, the IQ Battery integrates natively. Monitoring, control, and firmware updates all happen through the same Enphase app you already use.
LFP safety profile
LFP chemistry runs cooler, is more thermally stable, and has a longer cycle life than many older lithium-ion chemistries. For homeowners who want the safer profile, LFP is increasingly the preferred choice.
NEM 3.0 optimization
Under California’s NEM 3.0 program, time-of-use mode helps you self-consume stored solar during peak-rate evening hours, reducing the amount you export at reduced NEM 3.0 rates.
Quiet operation
Passive cooling means no fan noise. If the battery is installed indoors or in a quiet outdoor space, this is a meaningful day-to-day quality-of-life difference.
Field-replaceable components
Remote firmware updates and field-replaceable parts mean service calls are faster and less disruptive if something needs attention.
Enphase questions homeowners ask us.
How is the Enphase IQ Battery different from Tesla Powerwall?
Two main differences: capacity per unit (5.0 kWh Enphase vs 13.5 kWh Powerwall) and architecture (AC-coupled with embedded microinverters vs DC-coupled with a central inverter). Enphase favors modular expansion; Powerwall favors whole-home backup from one large unit. Neither is universally better — the right fit depends on your home’s existing system and your backup goals.
Can I use Enphase storage if my solar system isn’t Enphase?
Because the IQ Battery is AC-coupled, it can pair with non-Enphase solar systems. However, native integration — where monitoring and control happen through one app — only works if your solar system also uses Enphase. Your advisor confirms feasibility and any extra hardware needed during site assessment.
How many IQ Batteries do I need?
Depends on your daily energy use, which circuits you want backed up, and how many hours of backup you want during an outage. Many California homes start with 2–4 units for critical-load backup. Your advisor sizes this against your actual utility history.
What does the 15-year warranty actually cover?
The 15-year limited warranty covers manufacturing defects, capacity retention to a defined threshold, and up to 6,000 charge cycles. Specific warranty terms (and exclusions) are spelled out in the Enphase warranty document provided at installation.
How safe is LFP chemistry?
Lithium iron phosphate (LFP) is considered one of the safest lithium-based chemistries for residential storage because it’s thermally stable and less prone to runaway. The IQ Battery 5P meets UL 9540A fire-test requirements, which is the most rigorous residential storage fire standard in North America.
What are the operating modes?
Three modes: backup (reserve capacity for grid-down events), self-consumption (use your own stored solar before pulling from the grid), and time-of-use (discharge during peak utility rate windows to minimize bill impact). Mode can be changed from the Enphase app.
